The present temple dates from the second half of XII century and has been open for worship in 1184 and follows the Romanesque style of the second phase Coimbra. Project with the French master Robert, the church has a rugged exterior, symmetric, with few openings and the crowning battlements.
The central portal has clear influence of Islamic decoration, while the side door, called "Port information", attributed to John of Rouen, shows elegant Renaissance decoration.
Inside, along the side aisles to distribute gallery of trifório. Particular attention to the altar of the presbytery, in flamboyant Gothic, dating from around 1498 and executed by sculptors of Ghent and Flemish Olivier Jean d'Ypres. The altar of the Blessed Sacrament chapel, complete with an elegant dome of cards, in Mannerist style, date from 1566 and was run by John de Rouen.
The cloister, Gothic, started in 1218, it is highlighting the capitals naturalists.
