
The Botanical Gardens, located in the heart of Coimbra since 1772, by the Marquis of Pombal, extends over 13 ha in land which were mostly donated by Benedictine monks.
The establishment of seed bank and the publication of the Index Seminum (catalog of seeds) in 1868, today updated annually, including exotic varieties and Portuguese very diverse. This allows us today protect species at risk of extinction in their natural habitat. The garden won so new features in the conservation of nature.
The garden is also an area of tranquility, full of corners that we simply invite a stroll.
